(CBSNewYork/AP) — NBC News has fired Billy Bush after an “Access Hollywood” tape from 2005 surfaced showing the former host having a lewd conversation about women with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
NBC announced that Bush will be leaving the “Today” show’s 9 a.m. hour effective Monday. Bush was suspended from the morning show two days after contents of the 2005 tape were reported on Oct. 7. NBC and Bush’s representatives had been negotiating terms of his exit before Monday’s announcement.
“While he was a new member of the TODAY team, he was a valued colleague and a longtime member of the broader NBC family. We wish him success as he goes forward,” a note sent to the show’s staff read, according to CBS News.
Bush said in a statement he looks “forward to what lies ahead.”
“I am deeply grateful for the conversations I’ve had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends, and colleagues. I look forward to what lies ahead,” Bush said.
