Born in Ghana and a painter by trade, Neodandi designer, NiiLartey De Osu, has been creating custom men’s and women’s apparel out of his Seattle atelier for the past 8 years. With an aesthetic often compared to Commes des Garcons, De Osu designs like a painter, directly onto his models, with no sketches and no patterns. Fashion Group International (FGI) Trend Overview

Today, November 14, 2012, Fashion Group International had a trend overview presentation and panel discussion of the Spring/Summer 2013 RTW collections. This presentation included shows from New York, London, Milan, and Paris! The discussion panel included Mickey Boardman, Editorial Director of Paper Magazine, Christina Binkley, Style Columnist of The Wall Street Journal, Ikram Goldman of ikram ,Chicago, Brooke Jaffe,  Accessories Fashion Director of Bloomingdale’s, and Jane Larkworthy, Beauty Director of W. With special guest moderator, Sally Singer.

The FGI trend presentation video flourished the accumulated most seen styles of the RTW collections for Spring/Summer 2013. The overall assumption is that SS13 is a memory of the 60s. Many of these collections included inspirations from Mode 60s, Neo-Geo 60s, Mondrian/Yves 60s, Hipsters 60s, Hippy 60s, and Madonna of  the 80s.

The panelist had a lot to say about the collections that were viewed.Paper Magazine’s Editorial Director, Mickey Boardman stated that he loves attending women shows opposed to men shows, because he loves to be entertained. He feels men shows are boring.  Menswear have such a minimal amount of things to play with. Whereas, women clothing can be played with to the fullest.

“We’re remembered for the things that we did that were hard, not the things that we did that were easy”; said by Mickey during the panel discussion.

Brook Jaffe predicts that the white shoe will replace the nude shoe for the spring and summer season.

” When something new is cold to a designer, it will be cold to an editor. When it is cold to an editor, it will be cold on the rack. If it is cold on the rack, it will not leave the store!”

This quote was said by Sally Singer before the end of the panel discussion. I entirely believe in this quote. If a design is not loved or cared by a designer, he will not put hiss all into it and eventually show on the runway and sales.

A complete version of the FGI trend presentation is available on DVD and DVD-data.

London Fashion Week SS13

London Fashion Week SS13 took place September 14th-18th 2012. There will be a lot of new looks that will be hitting the streets for this coming summer. Some of these looks have already been seen at this years Emmy Awards. For instance, sea green shades were seen on Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, Siri Pinter, and Julianne Hough. Also, the floral prints were seen on  Elisabeth Moss, Julianna Margulies, Ariel Winter,  and Sufe Bradshaw. Lastly, majority of the people at the Emmy wore jewel-like sequins and beadings gowns.  These individuals were Lucy Liu, Nicole Kidman, Glenn Close, Kate Mara, Connie Britton, Rita Wilson, Erica Schmidt, Julia Ormond, Amy Poehler, Kerry Washington, Hilaria Thomas, Sarah Paulson, Lena Headey, Lara Spencer, Brooke Burke, Shannon Woodward, and Hayden Panettiere.

(Burberry Prorsum, Ashley Isham, Mark Fast, Mulberry, PPQ, Ashley Isham, Peter Pilotto, Antonio Berardi, Marios Schwab, Sass & Bide)

Delicate leafy floral motifs, precise cuts and geometric shapes, bold weave structures, snakeskin both real and printed, and many more gives London fashion the edge and slight twist that many will soon be wearing in the summer of 2013. According to StyleSight.com “new takes on ladylike and modernist looks defined London’s shows.”

Fashion Palette New York Kicks Off NY Fashion Week A Day Early

Fashion Palette kicked off NY Fashion Week a day early showcasing 10 Elite Australian Designers from their showroom (163 West 23RD Street Level 4 NY10011). From ready-to-wear to bridal wear many of these designers honestly have some unforgettable pieces.

Just when you thought the event was over, Fashion Palette had an amazing cocktail event at PHD – Dream Downtown, 355 West 16th Street NY 10011. With appetizing hors d’oeuvre, signature cocktails, and a build-yourself candy bar, they have by far kicked off and prepared me for an amazing week.

Just before my final exit, I had an opportunity to speak with one of the designers personally, Jade Rodrigues of Jatine. She is an Australian designer that was born and raised in South Africa. She initially started as an accountant, than later pursued her dream in becoming a fashion designer. Now, she is in New York showcasing her collection for the first time. Be sure to check out her website and collection at http://www.jatine.com.

Well there you guys have it, Fashion Palette definitely knows how to showcase their designers. Check them out at http://www.fashionpalette.com.au

Till later, “BYEEEEEE!!!”
